Darwin in Australia's Northern Territory offers much to local and overseas travellers in the way of natural attractions. Darwin is the least-populated of Australia's capital cities, but has the most youthful population in Australia, giving it a vibrant and optimistic feel.
Darwin is built overlooking the harbour and is mostly flat and low lying. The city has much natural beauty, with an extensive coastline featuring recreational reserves and excellent fishing.
Weather in Darwin is generally tropical and mostly warm, with an average of 32 degrees Celsius all year round. The wet or monsoon is from October to May with the remainder of the year very dry and usually recording an average of just one or two days' rainfall.
To the north of Darwin are the Tiwi Islands which are made up of Melville and Bathurst Islands with the wonderful local Tiwi people and their interesting style of aboriginal art. Fishing is also popular in the waters in the area, providing one of Australia's finest eating fish - barramundi.
Another natural attraction is Litchfield National Park with its 1,500 square kilometres of cascading waterfalls, natural reserves, magnetic termite mounds and lush rainforests.
Kakadu National Park is Australia's largest national park and a must-see for all visitors to Darwin or the Northern Territory.
